Five Winter Wellness Habits

Continued Wellness is based in the Southern Hemisphere, which means for us July is the middle of Winter. Each season can bring many new opportunities to enhance our Wellness and establish new habits. What we do in Winter can look quite different from what we may be doing in summer. For instance, many runners may train more on the treadmill in Winter due to snow or weather conditions versus a cool summer morning run outdoors. Just like nature that surrounds us, we too are seasonal beings. There are multiple seasons we experience in life, such as the season of being a child, to the season of moving out of your parents’ home for the first time. As humans, we can adapt, but sometimes with new seasons, we may not make the best behavioural or lifestyle choices in the new season we find ourselves in. We have collected our top five winter wellness habits we wanted to share with you.

1. Extra Sleep

We all know that “getting between seven and nine hours shut-eye a night means to feel more alert, energized, decisive, happy and less prone to catching winter bugs.” We suggest taking time this Winter to schedule extra sleep, get to bed earlier and enjoy that extra 30min or hour of shut eye.

2. Journaling

Taking time to journal, especially before bed, can help to settle the mind and give you a much-needed break from your screens.

3. Stay Active

We know Winter can be a challenging time to stay active; we recommend trying something new like hot yoga or a local spin class to switch up your fitness routines and keep active.

4. Practice your cooking skills

It’s time to dust off the slow cooker and try some new delicious recipes like slow-cooked chicken soups!!

5. Schedule Self Care

Get out your calendar right now and book a much-needed self-care day; it’s one day this season, so don’t feel guilty about organizing that babysitter and spending time on yourself.
